1. Access rules
  • 1. Access to J-STAGE

    J-STAGE is an electronic journal site operated by Japan Science and Technology Agency (“JST”) that makes electronic journals issued by Japanese academic institutions and other contents available to the public via the Internet. Anyone may access J-STAGE as long as users understand and abide by the terms and conditions of J-STAGE. Please note that users will be deemed to have agreed to the T&C upon access to J-STAGE. These rules may be amended as necessary without notice in advance.

  • 2. Copyright

    The copyright of electronic journals and other contents published on J-STAGE generally (collectively, “Electronic Journals”) belongs to the institutions which are publishers of the Electronic Journals. The copyright on editing the layout and design of J-STAGE belongs to JST. These Electronic Journals are free for use to the extent permitted by the Copyright Law (such as for private use or citation), however, approval of the copyright owner should be obtained for reprinting, duplication, public transmission, translation, commercial use or making of derivative information (including compiling into databases), etc.

  • 3. Prohibited Matters

    Users are permitted to access or download the electronic journals only to the extent that is necessary for browsing each article. Downloading in volumes exceeding such extent (automatically or manually) is prohibited. In addition, all acts that cause or may cause system failure are also prohibited. Regardless of whether or not compensation is received, systematic linking to or searching (from database services and link resolvers, etc.) of the J-STAGE system including the J-STAGE Web API for commercial purposes needs JST's written approval in advance. JST may take necessary measures including suspension of the use of J-STAGE in the event that (or JST suspects it is likely that) users are violating these rules or infringing copyrights or other rights.

  • 4. No Guarantee

    JST shall not be liable for any damage, loss or cost incurred by users due to or in relation to the access to J-STAGE and related services. JST shall also not be liable for any modification, suspension or discontinuance of the services.

    J-STAGE is the registered trademark of JST.

  • 6. Access log

    JST tracks information about J-STAGE access in the form of access logs. The logs may be used for only purposes of improving JST services, statistical, academic research and analysis, without combining with personal information.

    These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan. It is agreed that the court of jurisdiction for all disputes arising with this agreement shall be the Tokyo District Court.

2. Use of material on J-STAGE

J-STAGE is a platform of e-journal publishing for academic (science and technology, including social sciences/ humanities) societies in Japan. The services are planned and managed by JST, and the journals and its articles are managed by respective publishing societies. Therefore, material on a journal is copyrighted by the society. Please direct the enquiries to the society about the following:

- Editorial policy
- Submission
- Subscription
- Requests for permission to photocopy or republish material etc.

3. Privacy Policy
  • 1. Information that is collected

    (1) Access information (including but not limited to users' domain-names, IP addresses and the pages accessed) is automatically collected on J-STAGE. However, we will never identify any individual by such collected data. Although we use Cookies, we will never identify any individual by this information.

    (2) If you wish to use My J-STAGE service, please register your e-mail address. We will collect the information, registered by My J-STAGE user, regarding favorite materials, favorite articles, favorite searches and, alert services("Register Alerts" or "Citation Alerts"), as well as the frequency of access and accessed pages (the “Users Information”).

  • 2. Purpose of Use

    (1) The collected access information will be used through statistical analysis for understanding the trend of usage of J-STAGE such as the trend of access in order to provide further effective services, as well as for monitoring excessive or unauthorized use and for recovering from system failures. We occasionally use Cookies for confirming the authentication information of users.

    (2) Your mail address registered for use of My J-STAGE service will be used as a login ID for My J-STAGE service, and also for sending alert services ("Register Alerts" or "Citation Alerts") and notices from academic societies and Japan Science and Technology Agency(“JST”). The Users Information of My J-STAGE user will be used through statistical analysis for understanding the user's tendency of usage in order to improve the service.

  • 3. Disclosure of Information

    JST may disclose the collected information, to a necessary extent, to institutions (academic societies or operation companies, etc.) that are involved in the operation of J-STAGE only for the purpose as described above.
    Apart from the above, the collected access information will not be used for any other purpose or be provided to third parties unless disclosure is required by law or due to some illegal acts such as unauthorized access or interference, etc. However, the collected information may be disclosed after statistical processing.

  • 4. Usage of the Collected Information

    JST will take necessary measures to prevent divulgation, loss, or damage of the collected information and to appropriately manage such information.

4. Link Policy

We are happy to permit links to J-STAGE. However, please limit links to one of the following pages. We would appreciate it if you would let us know when you create a link. We may refuse links from sites that we consider inappropriate such as commercial sites or sites that may infringe copyrights, etc.

5. Pay-Per-View Article (full text) – Terms and Policy

Note: A full text article from a title published in "Japanese and English" may be written in Japanese even if it has an abstract in English. If you would like to obtain the full English article, please confirm with the publisher prior to your purchase. Clicking on the menu bar of the journal's top page allows you to check the publisher's contact information or the publication language.

  • 1. Terms

    The following Terms and Conditions of Use dated January 2005, govern the entire use of the Pay-Per-View System. Please note that you are deemed to have agreed to the Terms and Conditions of Use after you purchase a document via the Pay-Per-View System.

    Copyright
    - The purchased documents and all the contents currently available via the Pay-Per-View System are protected by copyrights under international conventions (unless otherwise indicated on the title page of the document).
    - The copyright holder is indicated in the column of the document information.
    - You may freely use the purchased documents to the extent permitted by copyright laws, such as private use or quotation; however, prior written consent of the copyright holder is required if you reprint, duplicate, publicly transmit, translate, commercially use the document or make any derivative information in relation thereto (including compiling the documents into a database).

    Use of Cookies
    - In the Pay-Per-View System, cookies are used as a session control device in order to control the connection with your computer.
    - In the Pay-Per-View System, we use cookies that are deleted on closing the browser
    - In order to use the Pay-Per-View System, users must set their browsers to accept cookies.
    - We do not use cookies to keep track of other sites you have visited or to acquire any personal information about you.
    - We will delete all of the cookies when you complete your purchase order and close your browser.

    Additional Terms
    - These rules may be amended as necessary without notice in advance. Your use of the Pay-Per-View System shall be conclusively deemed as acceptance of such modification.
    Your use of the Pay-Per-View System after the amendment is deemed as your consent to such amendment.

  • 2. Policy

    We, JST, in light of the importance of protecting personal information collected through the operation of the Pay-Per-View System, shall take the necessary measures to protect such personal information from any improper divulgence. Please note that you are deemed to have agreed to the Privacy Policy after you purchase a document via the Pay-Per-View System.
